Salty Salutations

Bonneville is one thing that I did not get to do this summer. Which is why I was all the more thankful when I stumbled upon this video today. It’s a perfect taste of the salt and Speedweek and I have to admit I got teary-eyed while watching it. You can even see some of my salt flat favorites like Jeff Brock and Bombshell Betty, Starting-Line Jim, Andre and his Studebaker Coupe, and I even saw Gord’s Blue Stude passing by in the background. Whether or not you’ve caught salt fever like I have, this video should give you a little taste, enjoy!

Heating Up At Speed Week 2011

Getting Salty on the Bonneville Salt Flats

Salt Flats 2011, Speed Week 2011, Bonneville, land speed racing, salt flats racing, speedweek 2011

I wasn’t sure I’d be able to come to Bonneville this year. Studie didn’t get to come with me, but by 3pm Thursday afternoon my boyfriend Ethan and I were headed out of So Cal. By 9pm we were zooming across the empty desert underneath a full moon. By 3am we’d passed through Wendover and found an empty space at “The Bend”(the aptly named bend in the road just before getting to the Bonneville Salt Flats.) Early the next morning the sun woke us up to the sight of an amazing sunrise out over the salt flats – it was time for Speedweek 2011 to begin. Click here to read the full salty story!

Speed Seeking Studebaker’s #5 – The Rest of the Pack

Bonneville Salt Flat Racing Vintage Studebakers

1953 Studebaker Coupe on the Salt Flats, land speed racing, 1953 Studebaker coupe, Bonneville, salt flats

Speed Week 2011 is quickly approaching! And you know what that means…Salt Fever! It’s reminded me that I still have many Speed Seeking Studebakers to add to the series I started after last year’s Speed Week. In fact, there’s 11 more racing Studebakers I have to bring ya. Rounding out a total of 14 Studebaker racers on the Salt Flats I caught last year (and I’m sure I missed a few!)

If you missed #1-4, begin here - Speed Seeking Studebaker’s.

Picture of the Week: Salty Studebakers

2010 Speedweek – Bonneville Salt Flats

Some things just need to be seen – like this grouping of Studebakers we shot out at Speedweek this past August! Two racing Studes and two spectator Studes. With less then half a year to go until Speedweek 2011, I’m already counting the days!

Be on the lookout for more picture’s of the week – there’s so many great shots I don’t always get the chance to share here on GreaseGirl.

Welcome to Grease Girl!

I'm not what you would call your normal grease monkey. I prefer to keep my cuticles trimmed and fingernails red. But when I started driving my 1955 Studebaker Champion I had to get a little greasy! Seeing as I'm more or less new to all this, this blog will be the place to learn along with me. Check back often to see what adventure I'm on next...it'll be fun!
