Gettin’ Patriotic with The Pinup Angels

pinupangelsgroup2As Memorial Day and July 4th are sparkin’ up our summers – let me introduce some gals who are sparkin’ up some TLC for our boys serving overseas. The Pinup Angels are a group made up entirely of volunteer pinups. These ladies make care packages (with pictures included of course) and send them out to show a little love and care to our troops overseas.

We all know of the WWII pinup being used to boost troops moral and I think it’s really cool that these ladies aren’t just posing but they’re very active in finding other ways to support guys who are working to defend the ol’ USofA. Their care packages deliver not just pictures, baked goodies, and other useful stuff – but they deliver a message to the fellas that people back home are thinking of them and are very grateful for their service.

I was fortunate enough to get a chance to talk to Miss Kitty Baby, the Pinup Angel’s leading lady, while at Viva Las Vegas. To hear more about it, click here to keep reading!

All Sorts of Workin’!

MyRideIsMe.comThis past weekend has been busy! First of all, I would like to introduce you all to MyRideIsMe.com – who I’ve been lucky enough to pair up with! It’s a super cool site that lets you connect with other car folk from near and far. Grease Girl articles will be featured over on MyRideIsMe.com - we’re just unveiling my first introductory piece, check it out!

greasy girlOther than writing, I’ve been doing LOTS of working this weekend too. Many preparations came down to the wire getting ready for Viva Las Vegas. At home there’s been outfits to sew (gotta look good!) and in the garage the transmission needed switched out in the Stude and the headliner finished. I had wanted to get a little pinstripping done, but I think that’s gonna have to wait.

Believe it or not – everything was accomplished! Well…everything but that vintage-era bathing suit I wanted to make. So click on over to MyRideIsMe.com and check back soon for the finished Headliner How-To as well as a Transmission 101 article!

And you know where I’ll be next weekend!!! I hope to meet lots of you then, but if you can’t make it to Viva, you know where to find pictures of the shenanigans and crazy rockabilly custom cars and rat rods afterward!

girls and Studes

I was thrilled to get a comment from Chris with the Sequoia Chapter of the Studebaker Drivers Club and a link to his cute 55! It amazes me how many different models of the 55 Champion there are…that look mostly the same but have little things different…ahh…marketing marvels!

While perusing the pics of the other member’s cars I came across Pinky and her 58 Wagon. (Not the only woman of the club either!)She’s got a very cool car and I was excited to hear she did much of the restoration work herself…and also with no previous mechanical skills! Props to you Pinky and I hope to run into you one of these days – we’ll have to take a cruise. And if that surfboard atop your wagon is any indication that you surf, we can catch a wave too!

Pinky’s site can be found here!

surfpinupP.S. I need a surf rack for my Stude. My dad and I were going to custom weld one when I’m home in April. Any hot rod surfers out there have stories of racks they’ve used? I’d love to hear!

Grand National Roadster Show

I had tons of fun today checking out the cars and meeting some really cool people at the 60th Annual Grand National Roadster Show. For all of you who chatted with me – thanks so much…it was fantastic meeting you all!

Coming this week I’ll be writing up some of the thoughts I gathered on why we like cars and how we got that way. For now, here’s a few photos of some things that stood out to me.

Howdy!

dsc_0042For all those guys who thought girls were just purdy. And all those women who thought cars were just dumb.

I’ll always be all lady – but I hope to increasingly become more of a grease monkey! My daily driver is a 1955 Studebaker Champion. I had some help getting her on the road initially – but I’m doing my darndest to learn all I can as we go from here on out.

So this blog will be the place to learn about cars through my eyes. There’s all sorts of things that car guys take for granted that they know. Like what in gosh darn is a gasket?! I’d been hearing that word for years before I figured out exactly what it is.

So enjoy this journey with me…it’s been fun so far! And if I do say, my car and I are usually the cutest ones in the garage!!!

Welcome to Grease Girl!

I'm not what you would call your normal grease monkey. I prefer to keep my cuticles trimmed and fingernails red. But when I started driving my 1955 Studebaker Champion I had to get a little greasy! Seeing as I'm more or less new to all this, this blog will be the place to learn along with me. Check back often to see what adventure I'm on next...it'll be fun!
